TOAS Meets CF Over Sundarbans Vessel Congestion & Route.

Today, some Executive and other members of the Tour Operator Association of Sundarban (TOAS) visited the Conservator of Forest (CF, Khulna Circle) office as the much-anticipated Sundarbans tour season draws near. The meeting focused on key operational and environmental issues to ensure a smooth and responsible tourism season. A primary concern raised was the growing congestion of tourist vessels at limited designated spots, as vessel numbers continue to rise each year. TOAS proposed introducing more visiting spots and setting separate routes to avoid all vessels following the same path, which often causes traffic jams on the Jettys and at popular attractions. The discussion also covered measures to operate plastic-free and pollution-free tourism in the Sundarbans, promote eco-friendly and responsible travel practices, and strengthen the training of tour guides for better visitor management and interpretation. Additionally, vessel movement control and regulation were highlighted as vital steps to protect the forest’s fragile ecosystem while maintaining tourist safety and comfort. The meeting reflected TOAS’s strong commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Forest Department to enhance sustainable tourism, protect biodiversity, and ensure a memorable experience for all Sundarbans visitors this season.
